In 1995, he started his professional career with Chilean side Universidad Católica. ‘Jano’ participated in tours through Holland, France, Spain, and the United States. In 1998-99, he played for the Jacksonville Cyclones of the USL First Division. He played his last season in Chile with Club Deportivo Palestino, where he had outstanding performances as a starting midfielder and a great free kick shooter. In 2005, he joined the Islanders and played 24 games, scoring 2 assists. In 2006, Gonzalez moved to the left back position where he appeared in 17 games, scoring 1 goal and 2 assists. He returns in 2007 for his third consecutive season with the Islanders.
