A core player
in the Islanders defense. Started playing soccer with local
clubs in Puerto Rico before joining the Bolletieri Soccer
Academy (now known as IMG Soccer Academy) in Bradenton,
Florida. He played college soccer with Barry University
where he was a starting defender all four years. He was
named First Team All Conference his freshmen and sophomore
year and Second Team All American his junior year. In 2003,
Marco was drafted by the NY/NJ Metrostars in the MLS Superdraft
but decided to sign with the Seattle Sounders of the USL
First Division. In his first season with the Sounders he
moved up to the forward position and scored four goals and
four assists for a total of 12 points. In 2004, he moved
back to his natural position where he was the starting right
back in the season they reached the USL First Division Finals.
In 2005, he returned to his homeland and joined the Puerto
Rico Islanders where he scored 2 goals as a defender. He
is a current member of the Puerto Rican National Team and
his last cap was in the 2005 Gold Cup Qualifiers in Trinidad & Tobago.
He spent the month of November 2005 training with Chile’s
First Division side Club Palestino. In 2006, he was named
to the Team of the Week four times. Marco was named team
captain for the Concacaf Champions Cup Qualifiers, and returns
in 2007 for his third consecutive season with the Islanders. |
